Innovating Diabetes Care with Technology

The Mathioudakis Lab is dedicated to transforming diabetes care through innovation and technology. Our research is encapsulated in the guiding principles of prediction, precision, and prevention. We focus on developing and evaluating cutting-edge clinical decision support systems, utilizing mobile health (mHealth) solutions, and harnessing the power of technology to enhance diabetes prevention and management.

At the forefront of our research is the application of machine learning and extensive electronic health record (EHR) datasets. Additionally, we use the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) framework to generate real-world evidence, enabling us to predict outcomes and improve decision-making processes for individuals at risk for or currently managing diabetes. Our lab is committed to investigating AI-driven interventions and conducting a variety of rigorous studies, including retrospective analyses, prospective cohort studies, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), systematic reviews, and meta-analyses.

An essential aspect of our work is addressing healthcare disparities related to diabetes. By leveraging informatics tools and advanced technologies, we strive to ensure equitable access to effective diabetes prevention and management strategies for all communities.

Our research is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), industry partners, and charitable organizations, including Breakthrough T1D and the Helmsley Charitable Trust. This diverse support enables us to push the boundaries of knowledge and create impactful solutions for individuals affected by diabetes.
